Dr. Julie Roberts

Dr. Julie Roberts is a senior lecturer and project manager at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, where she leads Design Thinking workshops. Building on this adaptable and flexible model, She has worked with students, volunteers, entrepreneurs, not-for-profits, start-ups, universities, professional groups and small to medium businesses, as well as complex multinational corporations.
Julie has been supporting GBPN with facilitating workshops on online courses at Monash Art, Design, and Architecture (MADA), advocating for online education and content access, and running focus groups for Pitch to Policy (P>P) India and Indonesia.
Julie’s hybrid thinking approach straddles between art and design, history, social and critical theory, business, and education. She is also a creative writer, an art historian and a welfare officer. Over the past decades, Julie has been working in a range of different fields, including as Coordinator, WIL Inter-country Project (Australia-Vietnam); Director, Social Enterprise Group (RMIT University) and Deputy Director, Social Innovation (CQUniversity). Since 2016 Julie has spent several months each year in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she volunteers with the micro-finance organisation En Vie. More recently she joined the CADA Foundation as their (voluntary) Engagement and Development Manager.
Julie holds an Assoc. Dip. in psychology (1979), a bachelor in visual culture (1984), and a PhD in visual culture (2002) all from Monash University. She is based in Melbourne, Australia.
