Key stakeholders have convened with GBPN in Indonesia to develop the Indonesian Green Affordable Housing Program (IGAHP) Roadmap. Participants included members of the Directorate General of Infrastructure Financing, along with representatives from leading construction component companies such as Indonesia Cement Group Company, Eco-Bricks Company, Green Roofing Company, and representatives from Construction Company Association.

The event gained valuable insights from the business ecosystem of housing construction, gathering opinions and perspectives that will inform the future of sustainable housing in Indonesia, ultimately leading to 1 million units of sustainable housing development.

Fitri Ami Handayani, Head of Investment Plan and Legal at the Directorate of Housing Financing Provision, Directorate General of Infrastructure and Housing Financing, emphasized the importance of quality over quantity in housing development.

“Building 1 million housing units is a commendable goal, but it is far more crucial that these homes are environmentally friendly and sustainable. Our focus should be on creating quality housing that meets the needs of the community without compromising the environment,” Ms. Handayani said.

“This discussion provided a platform for open dialogue between the government and industry leaders, exploring innovative solutions and strategies for integrating sustainable practices into housing construction.”

Participants highlighted the necessity of collaboration between public and private sectors to achieve Indonesia’s green housing targets. All of the industry leaders at the event were in favour of a clear policy and incentives to promote sustainable buildings in Indonesia.

GBPN Senior Manager Matthieu Caille said a collaborative effort was required to drive this initiative forward.

“The success of the Indonesia Green Affordable Housing Roadmap lies in the synergy between government policies and industry innovation.” Mr. Caille said.

“By working together, we can develop a framework that not only meets housing demands but also sets a standard for sustainability in construction.

“This event concluded on a positive note, with all participants expressing a shared commitment to advancing sustainable housing practices. The insights and recommendations gathered during the Focus Group Discussion will play a pivotal role in shaping the Green and Affordable Housing Roadmap, ensuring that Indonesia continues to lead the way in environmentally responsible housing development.” Mr. Caille said.

By fostering collaboration and leveraging the expertise of industry leaders, Indonesia is well-positioned to create a sustainable future for its housing sector.
