The Housing for All mission presents a unique opportunity for India to promote action-oriented leadership in energy efficiency in the affordable housing sector, which has thus far not been exploited. The housing built today will stay in our cities for the next 30-40 years at least. Today’s decisions will impact the level of thermal comfort that these dwellings provide to its occupants and the energy use, costs, and associated carbon emissions over the lifetime of the building. Thus, it calls for a multidisciplinary approach to make the upcoming built stock “future-ready,” which would enhance the occupants’ thermal comfort and enhance the lifecycle affordability of the dwelling unit.
