The Solutions Series – Policy to Practice
Media reporting on the climate emergency is focusing sharp attention on global failure to act. While this call for urgency is timely it can drown out the very real progress that some countries are making in turning commitments into action.

The solutions to zero-emissions buildings are already progressing in local policies, cross-sector partnerships and new models of collaboration. The real challenge now is scale. How do we turn the spotlight on these solutions and the changemakers championing them?
What is the Solution Series?
At GBPN, we know that real transformation in the building sector comes from the ground up. The Solutions Series is a GBPN Network initiative to highlight changemakers already turning commitments into climate action. The video series spotlights solutions that are practical, replicable actions grounded in local contexts and shaped by the people closest to the problems.
Each story is tied to a key lever in GBPN’s Theory of Change:
- Policy Reform
- Market Transformation
- Health & Resilience
- Learning & Innovation.
Together, they offer a clear picture of what works and how to do more of it.
Policy Reform
Achieving step-change policy reform through bottom-up and evidence-based strategies.
We spotlight GBPN’s Kenya Decarbonisation Roadmap for Net-Zero Buildings as an example of how a broad based bottom-up coalition of experts can tailor make a plan that has the buy-in for implementation from the start.
Market Transformation
Facilitating just market transformation and universal access to sustainable buildings through green financing.
We spotlight the One Planet Network’s Global Framework for Action which is harnessing sustainable and circular public procurement to drive demand for a near-zero emission and resilient built environment. Co-developed with over 200 stakeholders this framework defines five common principles and provides a menu of high-impact actions adaptable to local contexts.
We spotlight Orange County Group’s EvoGreen City as India’s leading sustainable township, showing how private developers can drive market transformation through innovative materials and integrated urban planning. EvoGreen City uses ‘Lime’ as a construction material, resulting in up to 9 º C cooling in buildings, including a school and health centre.
Health & Resilience
Universalising access to housing that is fit for future climates by providing thermal comfort and refuge from extremes and improving our health and well-being.
We spotlight The Heat Resilience & Performance Centre which is conducting research to monitor home environments in real time, innovating scalable cooling solutions to ensure thermal comfort and recovery for the most vulnerable, and via the Global Heat Health Information Network Southeast Asia Hub, addressing urban heat in the region.
Learning & Innovation
Cultivating an ecosystem of experts and practitioners to innovate, accelerate, scale, and sustain progress towards zero-emissions buildings.
We spotlight the work of the GlobalABC in uniting over 380 government representatives, industry leaders, and experts to create multi-stakeholder platforms for learning and innovation including the Buildings Breakthrough and Intergovernmental Council for Buildings and Climate. By building capacity and skills and sharing know-how, these platforms are breaking silos and accelerating the step change needed in the buildings sector.
