In an important milestone for collaboration, GBPN and Indonesia’s State Electricity Company, PT. PLN (Persero), have conducted a successful Kick-Off Workshop to advance PLN’s pathway toward Green, Smart, and Net Zero Emission buildings.
This meeting marks a significant step forward for Indonesia’s sustainable building initiative and energy transition goals, as PLN is the country’s largest and most prominent energy company. PLN provides electricity to most of the country through its supporting infrastructure in Indonesia.
Director of Legal and Human Capital Management, Yusuf Didi Setiarto, opened the Workshop with ambitious remarks to the attending Board of Directors and majority of Sub-holdings representatives.
“This kick off demonstrates the strong commitment of PLN toward becoming the backbone of Indonesia Energy Transition and a Pioneer of Net Zero Emissions buildings in Indonesia,” Mr. Setiarto said.
GBPN cooperation aims to support PLN’s commitment to becoming a local/global example of Green, Smart and Net Zero Emissions buildings, by demonstrating benefits and co-benefits of implementing such best practices on their own building stock of about 1,300 buildings across Indonesia.
Matthieu Caille, GBPN Senior Manager, highlighted the utmost importance of this collaboration, saying it could serve as a catalyst for Indonesia’s to accelerate its transition toward a more sustainable built environment.
“This collaboration marks a critical milestone not only for PLN but also for Indonesia’s low-carbon transition. Considering the scale of a group such as PLN, and their ambitions, we believe this cooperation could lay out a strategic foundation toward accelerating the green building agenda in Indonesia, and also demonstrate the quantified benefits and co-benefits of improving building energy performance” Mr Caille said.
“One key element slowing down mainstreaming Green Building best practices remains misunderstanding of the actual implementation efforts needed, often seen as challenging, expensive and difficult to justify. We believe this cooperation could bring key information to lift concerns on those aspects by demonstrating technical and financial feasibility as well as competitive edge.
“The discussions were very animated and emphasised on the commitment and existing efforts across PLN’s business arms. GBPN support could leverage those initiatives and transform PLN into a Net Zero Emissions Building champion for Indonesia, as well as the region.” Mr Caille said
GBPN experts presented methodologies for evidence-based sustainable building recommendations to the company’s key stakeholders at PLN Headquarter, Jakarta.
The successful Kick-Off Workshop with PLN sets a positive tone for the collaboration that will lay the foundation for the advancement in building sustainability as the one of the largest energy companies in Indonesia.
