Building Sustainably & Collaboratively with the Policymakers For Indonesia

Dr Novi Triadi Iman Bramono has recently joined the GBPN Indonesia team. He is currently working on several strategic projects in sustainable housing and the national roadmap on green building with a firm belief in a better sustainably built environment.

Have you ever walked into a building complex that is comfortable, has a fresh breeze, and provides adequate shade on hot days? Dr Novi Triadi Iman Bramono believes that more thoughtfully designed and better-built environments such as this can be achieved in many cities in Indonesia by collaborating with policymakers and key stakeholders.

“Our built environment must evolve to meet the demands of sustainability and resilience,” Dr Bram said

“We have seen so many best practices in urban built environments that provide its citizens a healthy environment, better housing, and are adaptable to climate challenges.

“Our challenges now are not only in ensuring a positive contribution to climate change by reducing GHG emissions from energy consumption or water efficiency from buildings; but also focusing on the health aspect, as we spend most of our time inside buildings.

“We should address these challenges by elaborating strategic solutions for future problems as well, with creative solutions using a collaboration process with all stakeholders.”

Dr Bram’s journey as a green building professional is marked by a demonstrated history of working in the public policy sector. He has been deeply involved in the decision-making process, regulatory development, and implementation of sustainable building practices. His work has significantly contributed to infrastructure development, building performance, and green financing in Indonesia.

Policymakers, the key to change

Bram is optimistic about his work with GBPN and key ministries, aiming to achieve a sustainable future for Indonesia. He sees collaboration with policymakers as a critical driving factor in this journey. With over 15 years experience working with both public and private building sectors, he should know. He has an extensive background in collaborating with buildings sector stakeholders, having started his career at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. Here, he contributed to the development of building codes, policies, and technical standards, including, significantly, helping to formulate the National Green Building Code.

“Working together with policymakers is essential. It’s the key to driving forward our agenda for a sustainable built environment,” Dr Bram said

“By aligning our efforts and combining our expertise, we can create sustainable building policies that are both practical and visionary. This collaborative approach is what will enable us to overcome the challenges and achieve our sustainability goals.

“The Ministry of Public Works and Housing provides the stepping stones and we have to collaborate together towards a better-built environment in Indonesia.”

A Vision for Indonesia’s Sustainable Future

Having only joined GBPN this year, Dr Bram has achieved a lot in a short time; working closely with The Ministry of Public Works and Housing, with a vision to meet Indonesia’s NDC target by decarbonizing the building sector through their projects. One of the most prominent ones that Dr Bram oversees is the National Roadmap for Green Building, which will guide Indonesia’s development in the near future.

“GBPN, alongside The Ministry of Public Works and Housing, is set to make significant strides in promoting green building practices across the nation. I believe the team is committed to fostering partnerships that will lead to innovative solutions and sustainable outcomes.”
